Euro Peloton Tour de France Predictions 2008

With the Tour de France upon us once again, it's time for some lofty predictions from Euro Peloton, just for fun. Here are our official predictions for each jersey in this year's Tour.

Yellow Jersey
In what should be an amazing battle for the most coveted jersey in all of cycling, Cadel Evans will take last year's finish one step higher and take his first Tour de France title. All won't be easy along the way though, as Evans will have his hands full dealing with Alejandro Valverde and Denis Menchov, who will finish second and third respectively.

Green Jersey
Fillipo Pozzato has not been mentioned as a possible winner of the green jersey, but that doesn't mean he can't win it. The flashy Italian has a mean finishing kick on the flats, and is a servicable climber. He won't win any alpine stages, but his ability to finish ahead of some of the other fast finishers on the hillier stages will be just enough to help him take the jersey, and with it recognition as one of the better riders in the world.

Polka Dot Jersey
Riccardo Ricco had an excellent Giro d'Italia, and showed the world that although he is small, he can still ride big for a three week Tour. Additionally, Ricco is not afraid to attack in the high mountains, and possesses the acceleration on the very steep climbs to ride away from the world's best. Taking the polkas dots will depend on how much time Ricco loses in the first week of the Tour. If he is behind by a lot on the GC he'll have an easier time escaping from the contenders. If however he stays less than ten minutes away from the top of the classification, he'll make this prediction look rather silly.

White Jersey
Ricco. We'll put Ricco in two catagories just in case. "The Cobra" will make a huge impression on this year's Tour, as he identifies himself as an overall contender of the future. If however Ricco takes the polka dots, then the white jersey will instead go to CSC's younger Schleck Andy.
